Monday (holiday) camellias

Camellia season is one of my favorite seasons...

A morning of acrylic ink drawing

I needed this.  I apparently have lots of geometric thoughts I need to sort out....  :D

Sun stripe

Spring camellia

Camellias have long had a special place in my photographic heart, and I am thrilled by their appearance each spring.  Which is apparently now.

Morning abstracts

I.  LOVE.  WEEKENDS. SO. MUCH.

And coffee.  Which I also have.

Gum’s gums

You need to know that the dragon's name is Gum Lung for this to make sense.  (You knew that.)

End of the parade, start of so many firecrackers!

I went to our annual Chinese/Lunar New Year Parade here in San Francisco.  I've been going since childhood - it is a fun event, and is another way I was spoiled: I didn't know as a kid that everyone doesn't get to go to light-up (illuminated) nighttime parades in honor of Lunar New Year!

I love this town.

I look traditional blurry/action photos of the parade, which you can see here - just don't look at them too closely.

My hearing will recover from the firecracker barrage over the next few days. :)

Seven AM

There are a few advantages to waking up too early.  But not many!

Painted Street (11th-ish)

Painted Street (furniture mart)

This is a time of year when the light shines down Market Street very directly in the evening, to pleasant effect.  The conversion of our diagonal downtown thoroughfare to public transit + bikes only is underway, increasingly indicated by festive paint.

Civic Center (Truth)

Civic Center near United Nations Plaza sure does have a lot of... geometry going on.  (And yes, seagulls LOVE to stand on the top of that statue.)

Cool tones

For someone who wears so much burgundy, I sure do like cool-toned work.  (Still at the Asian.)

Wisdom fire details

I like the very idea that wisdom creates flames around you!  It would be lovely if we were all so clearly labeled...  I also like the happy phoenix in the sculpted wisdom fire on the right.

Yes, I was at San Francisco's Asian Art Museum to see Awaken, a show on the theme of Tibetan Buddhism's path to enlightenment.  It is a good show, and I also took a turn around the second floor.

(The new expansion is coming together well: the space on the first floor already was set up to be a party room, so it MUST be nearly done!)
