Stitches catching the light



This is a detail from a multi-panel screen in the style that shows kimono hanging from kimono racks, except that they sewed an actual antique kimono into it.  Which is clever.  And meta.

Itchiku Kubota created the most elaborately dyed and stitched kimonos I have ever seen. They are stunningly beautiful, and you could get a magnifying glass and just get lost in them...

(I enjoyed viewing these up close in Toronto at the Textile Museum of Canada.)
