Cape Gooseberry (Physalis peruviana)


It boggles me that the first time I had these was in SWEDEN, even though they are grown in and are native to the Americas.

Somehow, they were available in my grocery subscription!  So I said hell yes.

They look like tomatillos, but taste like...  naranjilla (lulos)?  Okay, maybe those are just as rare locally as these.  Let's say... very sweet tomatoes.  If a tomato and a peach got together to invent a new fruit, maybe.  But a sticky one.
