Faceted Reflections (6 June 2026)

The clouds eventually did arrive during my long and pleasant walk, and I loved what they did on the surface of this building. 

Excessive Complexity

Fire escape shadows on complex surfaces appear entirely too often in my portfolio, and I love them still.

TOO MANY LINES - this characteristic just attracts my eyes.  I'm overthinking how tough it would be to draw, but... but... still so appealing.

Also: slightly irregular reflections on grids!  What's not to like?

 

Lines to the third

A and I went to see if the traditional miles of hanging lights have returned: sadly, they have not.  Yet, somehow, I was taking photos...

I remain fascinated by transparent, geometric hats.  How did this convey any sort of authority?

I have photos of this building going back to the early 80s.  (Not that I can find those.)

Great garage screen

This is a detail from one of the three decorative garage facades that I enjoy in Mission Bay, in and around UCSF.  

This one is called "Cellular Origami," and it's by the firm IwamotoScott (iwamotoscott.com).  Their website has other pleasing geometric projects!

Triangle testing

I exhausted my supply of letter-sized photo paper, and finally got a new order in.  What better way to test it than with some abstract, software-derived, photo-based compositions?

Conclusions: the paper is good. 44 lbs / 165 g weight holds the ink much better than my prior selections.  I wish I'd increased the resolution of some of these abstracts sooner (I had intended to print them very small when I first started generating them).  I've used a couple as the back of stationery recently, and if I keep that up, I should really consider having my printer do a run of them for me, because this is a lot of photo-quality, archival ink!  Yes, I really do sit around, converting photos into triangles.  Yes, it is rather therapeutic, now that you mention it.
