Red dahlias

Close up views of two red dahlias, the one on the left being lighter and more orange in color

Wall of fog, circle of pigeons

Sutro Tower protruding from tall fog, with the Castro Pride flag in the left foreground; a circle of pigeons, with their tails in the air

These things may be unrelated, beyond the fact that I encountered them within a short period of time on Sunday.

Three views inside SFM0MA

Cream and beige images of a stairwell, a hallway with many blond wood features, and a hanging paper circle installation

So many shades of cream and blond wood...

Concert in the fog

Five screengrabs of Outside Lands 2026 at night

From the comfort of my bed, I enjoyed the Strokes' surprisingly great set at Outside Lands, the music festival in Golden Gate Park.  The fog exceeded even the smoke machines on stage to make the many colored lights associated with the show on our soccer fields GLOW.  So pretty!  (I already have the new Strokes album, and am enjoying it very much!)

North Beach (3 August 2026)

Neon cocktail sign; artistic metal gate; carp mosaic; pie-slice-shaped tall building

I was supposed to have a day off, because I worked over a company holiday, but then I worked on the comp day also...  But at least I got outside.

YB Station

Yerba Buena / Moscone sign on a metal wall reflecting ambient colors

YBG

Murals; the fountain upstairs at Yerbua Buena Gardens looking east; mural steps

Windfoils (now I know what they are)

Crowds of people on beach with Gold Gate Bridge in the background; windfoil competition on the bay; windfoil parts on the sand

I wanted to know more about the competition we came across, but my searches for sail / kite / board / surfing were all in vain.  Windfoil is apparently a word now.

Marina-ness

five images: metal paper airplane sculpture; seagulls on a roof; BAR sign on an art deco wall in black and gold; red bougainvilla arch in front of a white house; reflection of Ghiradelli tower on a residential building

Wave Glass Woman

Woman icon in a circle on wave glass

Saturday in the Park

Cyclists biking on a roadway mural in Golden Gate Park; water lily; deYoung tower; flowers

The weather was warm, and the fog pulled back enough for me to enjoy infrared photography! What a great day.

White hydrangea; red flower; cyclists on painted roadway; purple daisy; red hydrangea

It was all I could hope for.  My feet will forgive me for the 16k steps in new shoes.

BART Temple (25 July 2026)

Have I ever written about this piece?  It sits atop the elevator.  This is Louis "Cork" Marcheschi's "Home," and it is so cheerful!

I found the name on BART's website in this inventory of all BART art (https://www.bart.gov/sites/default/files/docs/inventory%20for%20posting.pdf).

On the way to Bay Front Park (25 July 2026)

Detail of fish sculpture; industrial port facilities; detail of taller sculpture, sign for Bay View Boat Club

My sunny walk last weekend continued.  It was the first time I've been close to the sculpture called "Steelhead" (detail at top left) by Bryan Tedrick.  It was not my first time in the sculpture called "Louis" (lower right) by DeWitt Godfrey.

Mission Creek and China Basin Park (25 July 2026)

Five scenes: Oracle Park from the south, a wrapped-looking heart sculpture; landscape plants; sky

It was gorgeous last weekend!  I wanted to test settings on my infrared camera, and wasn't confident that the fog could resist Golden Gate Park, and so I headed east instead.  The weather was glorious, and I was able to practice with my camera to interesting results.

Anchor Steam (25 July 2026)

3 images: tall stainless steel tanks, a mural of yeast in a beaker, rusty water tower

It's been a while since I visited the local Anchor Steam brewery, which is inactive while it waits for its new owner to decide what to do with the beer, brand, and facilities.  Years ago I worked in the area, and always knew when they were roasting hops - it makes for a powerful smell that blanketed the area.
