Polaroid Blue Film in my Automatic 100

Images of a Polaroid Land Camera and a stack of blue-biased prints

Polaroid stopped manufacturing peel-apart film in 2008, so I obtained some in 2009-10 and… hoarded it. I’ve used some and loved it, but kept some in the fridge, since I wanted to save it for something special. But some of it dried out, and… I found the camera, warmed up the film, and was pleasantly surprised.

The camera is less precise with its shutter than I recall, but for a camera made in 1963-1966 that has never been serviced, it is doing okay!

Hopefully I’ll use up the rest of it this week.

May Highlights: Expired Polaroid Originals SX-70 Photos (31 May 2025)

Collage of Polaroid prints (faded atop more faded images of buildings); the SX-70 Camera; and the camera with film packaging

As part of my 'refrigerator project,' I am consuming all of the expired film I've been hoarding in my refrigerator.  This Polaroid Originals film was manufactured and expired in the same year, just over 7 years ago.  While shooting it, it remained completely blank...  So I fired off wildly, figuring that nothing would come out, only adjusting the exposure toward the very end.  I put the photos in a bag, and later that day realized that some of them actually developed out fully!  Faintly, but fully.

So: use your film while it's fresh, people.

Indoor sports

So, there's a pandemic on AND a heatwave AND the air is unhealthy for sensitive groups due to wildfire smoke.  Every time I try to get some "fresh" air, I wind up with burning eyes.  So, it's time to catch  up on my photography chores, and that includes doing some Polaroid peel-apart print scanning from my most recent (yet not very recent) outing with my gorgeous Polaroid Land Camera from the early to mid 1960s.

You should be impressed that film that has been in refrigerators since about 2008 still works!  Yes, there are lots of odd edges, spots and areas that just won't develop on some of the prints, but they are kind of charming, in their way.

The only problem with catching up on scanning is that I wonder where other sepia peel-apart prints I made wound up.  I've got some favorites that...  I can't account for.  Where are they now?
