A few more Instax images
I took a few more photos and got some fresh air, sunshine, and even gluten-free ravioli! So: it's been a good day.
Golden Star Neon (filter play)
My deep love for this sign continues! I am happy each time I see it. (I've never seen it lit, because I'm never near it at night, sadly.)

Amy Sherald: American Sublime is SO GOOD
Amy Sherald:American Sublime at SFMoMA is a superb exhibit, and I'm so glad a local editor mentioned it on Bluesky. The scale of the work, the dones, the shadows, her treatment of fabric, her superb modeling of faces... She is just so impressive! I bought the book, and am eager to spend more time with her superb, modern work.
Indoor Sports at SFMoMA
There is a sport-themed exhibit at SFMoMA called Get Into the Game, and it is not only very popular with visitors, but also THEY HAVE THE SECURITY GUARDS WEARING REFEREE COSTUMES, and that is hilarious.

Abstract thoughts (26 December)

Loving the Dome
It's so grand, and the wedding parties milling beneath it and posing everywhere for photos are adorable.
(Standing just off center, so you can see the perspective and realize it isn't flat.)

deYoung's Africa and New Guinea Galleries (24 December 2024)
I especially enjoy the Africa and New Guinea collections at the deYoung, and have slowly been realizing that the abstracts I draw may be what pulls me toward them - I have a lot in common with these artists and their tastes in patterns.
deYoung's Tamara de Limpicka show (24 December 2024)
JM highly recommended the Tamara de Lempicka show at the deYoung, so I went on Christmas Eve to have a look.
I really like her dramatic shading, and the way everyone's eyelids are modeled! I take comfort in the fact that she choose to make fingers cylinders and so models hands so strangely - hands are always tough (not just for AIs).

Paintings on a Green Wall
I love the lighting and the colors in the galleries at the Asian...
The left piece is Mountain Beyond Mountains by Liu Guosong from 1967, and feels completely contemporary to me.
The middle piece is Landscape in Clouds by Li Huayi from 2007, and has amazing textures that make me realize why granulation in watercolor is increasingly popular.
The right piece is also great, but the leftmost pieces felt most relevant to me.
Green, such a gorgeous green
And the sheen on it... *swoon* (oh look, I already have a tag for hanbok in my directory, who knew...)
Hallyu: Neon
San Francisco's Asian Art Museum wasn't too crowded today, so I was free to wander through Hallyu! The Korean Wave and enjoy its many charms (though I wasn't willing to go into the room where you could try dance moves from K-Pop bands, for the safety of others who might hurt them selves collapsing with laughter at the sight of me).

Camera Test for Lomo'Instant Wide Glass
I really like Fuji Instax film, but actively dislike my Fuji Instax Wide camera - it has never been very sharp, and I've been frequently disappointed with it everywhere other than parties (in which people look better in slightly soft focus anyway)... So I decided to try Lomo's attempt at this (despite some very mixed past experiences with their cameras).
But to test it, I decided to take it to a SHINY, TRANSPARENT, REFLECTIVE sculpture. This... wasn't very wise. Because: how the hell do you correctly expose such a subject? Anyway, I figured it out eventually. The GINORMOUS (oh my gosh - I have dictionaries that are smaller) camera works fine. And I have some happy memories of goofing around with such a charming installation.

Let's Glow SF at 250 Fremont (13 December 2024)
The building is ribbed, and the art made use of the texture at different times, but I'm showing two of the more organic and fractal images.
I told my Cousin that the building (which I have many photos of) is like Brutalism by someone who only pretends to believe in Brutalism. I find it very sculptural.

Let's Glow SF Kickoff with Dancers
The pre-lighting event is festive!
I love that kids have no hesitation about dancing in public with people in LED costumes. Adults should figure out how to retain this skill.
Kids should have fun, but not ALL of the fun!My Cousin says that this costume reminds him of the aliens in The Abyss. (Trust my dear Cousin to choose a good sci-fi reference!)It was nice to see dancers and spectators having fun.

Holiday Lights
The usual, though the palm trees have fewer lights than usual, depriving me of my California-flaunting opportunities.
Ferris from Afar
I saw this from a distance, and hoped it would be the sort that goes fast and makes visual swirls on film, but it is one of the more reasonable, sedate models.
SF Beneath Clouds
Little did I know when taking this photo, after discussing a bike trip down the California coast with a commute pal, featuring a long aside about historic tsunamis up in Crescent City, that we would be under a tsumani alert ourselves... The danger passed, it was all fine (and we are on an inland bay), but it still felt quite EVENTFUL.
